I’m so appreciative that you’re telling this story. It’s great to see the through line for tech drawn coherently.
In 2011 I was a sub for a company named PurePredictive—the vision of Dr. Wellman was “data scientists in a box”. They even got a patent 2012/13). A patent that H2O undid with a law suite in 2018. PurePredictive was a shitshow, Wellman was/is brilliant and kind, and I caught the automation bug there.
Thanks for reading! I forgot about PurePredictive. When I finish slogging through to the present day, I will consolidate all of these chapters into a book. Will add something on PurePredictive.
It’s ok to have forgotten a weird little company from Utah but for the book it’s a deep cut that definitely merits inclusion. Joe Reis is a great resource—happy to make an introduction if he’s not in your network. He and Wellman have stayed connected. I’ve since repented my fascination and obsession with “democratization” but it was my motivation for too many years.

Gemini says the company is now “deadpooled” LOL.

Heh! Big Squid was in Utah, too...
I'll have some thoughts on democratization as the story progresses
Yep, and I worked there too earlier on when they were developing “kraken” from a pile of r-scripts.
